I am pleased to return to Tulane University for the 31st International Legislative Drafting Institute. Each cohort presents an invaluable opportunity to examine legislative drafting from diverse perspectives. This year’s participants come from various countries, including the Bahamas, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kenya, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and the United States.
As a part of the programme, my sessions addressed topics such as “Plain Language Drafting,” “Preparation of a Drafting Manual,” and “Working with Members.” Utilising a mixed methodology that combined lectures and practical exercises, the sessions facilitated meaningful discussions as we explored the pros and cons of various approaches to several legislative drafting challenges.
Teaching allows me to pay forward the investment made by my educators and mentors. Moreover, I gain substantial insights through the exchange of ideas and experiences with my students. It is always a blessing and consistently rewarding to share my passion for legislative drafting and to promote the valuable resources available through membership in the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute, learn, and remain connected through this work.
